TKAM #1

We get to know Scout during the first few chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird. Scout has a lot of trouble on her first day of school and she doesn't get along with her teacher, Miss Caroline. When Scout is upset about school, Atticus gives her some advice for dealing with the situation. He says, "...if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll really get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."

Do you agree or disagree with Atticus' advice? Why? What can you tell about Atticus (as a father and as a person) by his statement? What other advice would you give Scout?
