TKAM #1

We get to know Scout during the first few chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird. Scout has a lot of trouble on her first day of school and she doesn't get along with her teacher, Miss Caroline. When Scout is upset about school, Atticus gives her some advice for dealing with the situation. He says, "...if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll really get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."

Do you agree or disagree with Atticus' advice? Why? What can you tell about Atticus (as a father and as a person) by his statement? What other advice would you give Scout?

I personally think the advice that Atticus gave Scout was good advice. You should always try to accept what other people think and do. I definetly think Atticus is a good father because he is always helping out his kids and doing his best to make sure they have a chance to be the best they can be.

I agree with Atticus’s advice. I can tell from reading this that Atticus is a wise man and good father. I do think that some of his parenting strategies are strange though. For example allowing his children to call him Atticus. In addition to scout’s fathers advice, I would also tell her to be patient, maybe her teacher will change her mind about allowing her students to read and write.

I personaly believe this to be true. Other advice I would give her is that there is always two sides of a problem. I can tell by this statement that Atticus is very wise and isn't ignorant to people's feelings around him.

I believe what Atticus said was great information. You dont know what eveyone has to deal with every day of their life. Some people may have a great life and can get along with everyone, but others may have a hard time at home or are in bad situations and they dont feel like being nice to anyone. When Atticus says this i believbe that this shows how he respects people. He know the way people act and can tell his son how to act. Hes a smart man. The advice i would give to scout would be to respect the teacher...don't talk unless spoken to and finish all of your work and tasks that need to be completed. Dont give the teacher andy reason to not like you. Get to know her try and figure out why she might be upset all the time.

I honestly believe that what Atticus said is completely true and right and that he could not have given better advice to his daughter. You truly don't know what a person is going through until you have expirienced it for yourself. The quote shows Atticus as a very caring father as well as a friend that his jids can talk to.

I really agree with the statement Atticus provided to Scout. It is true that you need to see the situation from the person's point of view and then things will go a lot smoother. I think that Atticus is a smart man and a kind, helpful father. He is always giving such useful advice to his kids and they will grow to be wise. If I could give advice to Scout I would tell her to mainly listen to her father but also to be herself and try to accept the people around her at the same time! I really agree with Atticus' statement.

I agree with what Atticus said. I believe that there is two sides to every problem and you have to just work it out no matter what happens. I think Atticus is very smart with his parenting skills, but maybe just bring it down a noch with having his kids call him by his first name. Some advice I would give to Scout is to do what her teacher tells her to do even if she doesn't agree with it.

I agree with Atticus. You can't always be so selfish and think of your side of the situation, you have understand where the other person is coming from as well. From what Atticus says, he seems very articulate, and he's a good father just because he doesn't try to do drown them in his way of thinking, he lets them have their own thoughts, instead of trying to dictate them.

I have to agree with Atticus because of the simple fact that he is right, if you don't look at things from different points of view you could never truly under stand anything or anyone. The statement also tells you that Atticus is good at explaining that could be complicated in a simple way, which demonstrates that he is a good father.

I agree with Atticus' advice. I think he knows how to get by in life and wants to teach Scout that, too. What Atticus said was true. You can't judge people until you have walked in their shoes. By this statement you can tell that Atticus is a very wise person.

No, I do not agree with Atticus' statement, because he really isn't a good dad in the first place and times change and rules fad. You can tell that he is an optimistic person and a good friend, he just doesn't have those frienldy qualities. The advice that I would give to Scout is to hang tough and I'll always be your friend and I would also say that you need to walk a mile in there shoes.

I agree with Atticus's advice. I think that people should always look at things from another point of view. Atticus is a good father that is wise and always helps his kids with problems. I would tell Scout to be patient with Mrs. Caroline, and try to be friends with her.

I agree with this advice and think it was very good. In society today a lot of people don't consider how other people feel, only how they feel. It selfish and conceited but this is how people think.

I agree with with Atticus's advice. I can tell from reading the quote that Atticus is a wise man and a good father. Some things that Atticus does are different than what other parents would teach their kids but in the long run his kids know what is best for them and they know how to act towards people. Some other advice that I, personally, would give Scout is that there is always two sides to a story not just one.
