MDG/COA question

I believe that in their hearts most people are not naturally "good". When I say this I mean that people are naturally selfish, selfish in the sense that they fend for themselves and think about themselves all the time. Don't get me wrong many people in today's world are nice and caring and selfless but the rest of us were born fending for ourselves. It's not a bad thing its just that human instinct within us. For instance in the story the Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford is selfish and just hunts without care. But once he is the hunted his perspective is way changed. I believe that within us is the urge to protect ourselves.
In my life I try to be a nice, "good" person, and I know that everyone would choose to be nice if it were easy but sometimes it is not. For instance if I don't get a good night's rest then I am grumpy the next day to everyone I meet and that is being selfish. I am being rude just because I had a bad time. Or if I have food and the kid next to me doesn't if I don't share that is being rude, but once again that is the whole fending for yourself perspective. I believe that people are born selfish but are taught to be selfless.
